ARC and the Stockholm Gerontology Reserach Center collaborated to conduct thiss 1987-2000 study, which was the forerunner of today’s SNAC-K project. The purpose of the Kungsholmen Project was to gather information about aging and dementing disorders and about the social consequences of dementia. A group of 2,368 people 75 and older who lived in the Stockholm neighborhood of Kungsholmen participated. They were interviewed, had a clinical examination, and were tested for dementia. Participants’ hospital and death records were also included in the study. In 1995 the project was expanded to include people from the rural area of Nordanstig.
