ARC professor Miia Kivipelto will receive Karolinska Institutet’s 2013 Skandia Lennart Levi Prize for her research on dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. The prize will be awarded in October.
The prize committee cited Professor Kivipelto’s work on the identification of risk factors and interventions to postpone or prevent dementia and Alzheimer’s disease as particularly important in light of ongoing demographic changes. Because more people are living longer, the number of people with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease is increasing, so finding factors that increase risk and ways to counteract them is a critical public health challenge.
