Mats Thorslund, professor in social gerontology, participated in a panel debate on the public affairs program “Sverker om äldreomsorgen” (Sverker on eldercare) about eldercare in Sweden. The program followed a four-part documentary on “Sveriges bästa äldreboende” (the best eldercare institution in Sweden). The series tried to make a regular eldercare institution into the best such institution in Sweden with the help of two experts in the field. Topics discussed during the debate included the level of ambition we should have at the national level, how to prepare for the growing population, how to take on the problem of over-medication of older persons, and what resources are needed to manage the eldercare in the future.
