The National E-infrastructure for Aging Research (NEAR)

The National E-infrastructure for Aging Research (NEAR) project involves 13 databases from population-based longitudinal studies on aging and health at 7 universities across Sweden.

The goal is to identify effective and sustainable intervention strategies for better health and care of elderly people. The infrastructure will bring added value via its broad research perspective, nationwide representativeness and larger generalizability, increased sample size, opportunities for exploring the diversity of health in older adults, and achievement of a critical mass of data to reinforce Swedish aging research internationally.

NEAR will provide reliable information for research in public health and epidemiology, social science, psychology, care science, neuroscience, geriatric medicine, and gerontology, and may lead to improved guidelines in public health and clinical practice.
During the coordination phase, 3 operational groups will set objectives and priorities, find solutions for harmonizing data, and define the database infrastructure.
