10 October, 2013 in subject Okategoriserade

Time: weeks 10 and 13, 2014, 9 am – 4.30 pm
Place: University of Gothenburg
The course in life course epidemiology, offered to both doctoral and post-doctoral students, will focus on how factors at different stages of life may affect later outcomes in health and function. The course will cover epidemiological and statistical methods related to the life course approach as well as several health topics presented from a life course perspective. These will include early life and life course nutrition, obesity, the influence of early life factors on subsequent disease risk, ageing, cardiovascular health, mental and cognitive health.
The lectures will be performed by several researchers working within the EpiLife consortium, with the addition of two lecturers from foreign institutions: Rebecca Hardy (MsC, PhD) and Susanna Lehtinen-Jacks (MD, PhD). Rebecca Hardy, program leader at the MRC Unit for Lifelong Health and Ageing (UK), will introduce the concept of life course epidemiology. She will also present the evidence showing how experiences at different ages may contribute to the development of chronic disease later in life. Susanna-Lehtinen Jacks, researcher at the School of Health Sciences at the University of Tampere (Finland), is an expert of adolescent overweight and obesity as well as of early life factors that can influence body mass index.
The course is held at the University of Gothenburg and offered by both the EpiLife and the ARC research schools, in collaboration with the Centre for Ageing and Supportive Environments (CASE) in Lund and the Swedish Brain Power (SBP), the national network on neurodegenerative diseases.
All lectures and seminars will be held in English.
