The Lancet Oncology has published an article by a European team of researchers, including ARC’s director Laura Fratiglioni, showing that air pollution increases the risk of lung cancer even at levels below current European Union limits. The study, a meta-analysis of 17 cohort studies from across Europe, was carried out using data from the European Study of Cohorts for Air Pollution Effects (ESCAPE). A podcast in which the study’s first author, Ole Raaschou-Nielsen, discusses the findings, can be heard at The Lancet Oncology website.
