An increasing share of the population in our countries lives to very advanced age. This calls for a better understanding of the ageing process, identifying possible preventive and treatment strategies to ensure that these extra years of life gained through increased longevity are spent in good health. The main objectives of the course “Application of epidemiological methods in aging research” are to:
- identify the key determinants of the demographic transition towards more longevous populations,
- understand the social, psychological and medical aspects of the aging process and the need for multidimensional assessment of older people’s health, and
- assess the methodological challenges posed by the different analytic approaches used in geriatric epidemiology.
