Debora Rizutto was appointed as Associate Professor of Geriatric Epidemiology at Karolinska Institutet in March 2020.

– I am clearly honoured to be docent in a leading medical university such as Karolinska Institutet, says Debora.

Debora is an epidemiologist with a background in quantitative methods and with more than ten years experience in aging research. She is also the Scientific Project Coordinator for the National E-Infrastructure for Aging Research (NEAR), which coordinates existing databases from the major population-based longitudinal studies on ageing and health in Sweden. Our mission is to promote and facilitate aging research in Sweden, to increase national as well as international exchange and collaboration, and to enhance research quality and generalisability of research findings. For more information, please see: https://www.near-aging.se/

Debora’s research activity focuses on investigating the most relevant factors that lead to longer and healthier life. Using a life-course perspective she is exploring the role of health status, lifestyle factors, social environment, and genetic background on late-life health and survival. Recently she has started a collaboration with the Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM), KI to explore whether physical environment, including air pollution, transport-related noise, and green space availability influence the health of the elderly population (read more on https://staff.ki.se/people/debriz).
