Davide Liborio Vetrano receives Junior Scholar Grant from SFOepi

Davide Vetrano has received a 2 MSEK Junior Scholar Grant from the Strategic Research Area in Epidemiology and Biostatistics (SFOepi) for the project “Biomarker signatures of the multimorbidity-frailty continuum: in pursuit of personalized medicine for older adults.”

The overall goal of this project is to identify novel biomarkers predicting longitudinal trajectories of multimorbidity and their impact on frailty in older adults. The coexistence and interplay between multimorbidity (i.e., presence of multiple diseases in the same individual), and frailty (i.e., clinical syndrome characterized by reduced resilience to stressors) is responsible, to a large extent, for the clinical complexity observed in older individuals.

The project will be pursued by a multidisciplinary team of researchers from Karolinska Institutet, SciLife Lab and Catholic University of Rome, taking advantage of readily available data from the Swedish National Study on Aging and Care in Kungsholmen (SNAC-K).
