Amaia Calderón-Larrañaga was appointed Associate Professor of Aging Research at Karolinska Institutet in September 2020.
– I receive this title from Karolinska Institutet with great honor and responsibility, says Amaia.
Amaia holds a degree in Pharmacy, a Master’s in Public Health, and a PhD from the Department of Public Health, University of Zaragoza, in Spain. Her research focuses on the interplay among psychosocial, care-related and biological determinants of longitudinal and multidimensional health trajectories. By doing so, she aims to improve the understanding of health in old age from a person-centered perspective, considering its complexity and between- and within- individual heterogeneity.
At the international level, Amaia has several ongoing collaborations and she is also part of the Spanish Multi-PAP Consortium, investigating the effectiveness of two cluster RCTs in patients with multimorbidity and polypharmacy aimed at improving prescription in primary care. Despite her central focus on research, she is also actively involved in different pedagogical activities at the undergraduate, masters and postgraduate levels within KI.
