ARC is a multidisciplinary center established in 2000 by Karolinska Institutet and Stockholm University, supported by a grant from the Swedish Council for Working Life and Social Research since 2000. One of ARC’s primary goals is to promote new scholars in human aging research. Students complete their doctoral studies in one of ARC’s three major areas of expertise: geriatric epidemiology, psychology, and social gerontology. Over twenty projects are ongoing at ARC. They are grouped in the following specific fields: 1) Longevity, morbidity, and functioning; 2) Treatment and care of elderly persons; 3) Health trends and inequality; and 4) Brain aging. All projects include at least one PhD student. ARC is directed by Professor L Fratiglioni.
