Pär Schön is an assistant professor in the Social Gerontology group at ARC. Pär’s main research interests cover the health and social care system for older people, social policy implications of the ageing population, and how this will affect future needs and demands for health and social care services. In Pär’s postdoc project, funded by Forte, he studied older people’s way into, and through, institutional care. Currently, he is the PI of the Forte-funded project “Why do older people seek emergency care? Causes, circumstances and explanations”. He is also involved in the ongoing Nordic research project Social Inequalities in Ageing.

Pär is involved in several international networks and international comparative studies on the care for older people. He is the Swedish non-governmental expert on long-term care in the European Social Policy Network for the European Commission. He is also a member of the CEQUA long-term care network at the London School of Economics and Political Science, financed by the European Commission.
