Eva von Strauss is a professor in Public Health Science and Dean of Research at The Swedish Red Cross University College and affiliated to ARC.

Eva von Strauss has worked at Karolinska Institutet (KI) and Stockholm Gerontology Research Center (Äldrecentrum) since 1990, and she has had the role as project coordinator and later as vice Principle Investigator in two large population based projects on aging; The Kungsholmen Project and the national study SNAC (Swedish National Study on Aging and Care).

Eva von Strauss has during her time at KI also helped to build up two new centers, such as one of KI’s Centers of Excellence, the Aging Research Center (ARC), a collaboration between KI and Stockholm University, and the Swedish Dementia Centre, in collaboration with Äldrecentrum and Stiftelsen Silviahemmet. Parallel to this Eva has developed an academic autonomy in both administration and her own research. During 2004-2009 she was appointed deputy head and scientific coordinator at ARC.

In 2009 she became pro Vice-chancellor of the Swedish Red Cross University College and in 2011 the director of the Red Cross Hospital and Elderly Care in Sweden.

Research description

Eva von Strauss major research area is epidemiology of aging, with special focus on dementia occurrence, gender differences in functional status and morbidity in the elderly, and health economic aspects of dementia care. She has authored more than 50 original research articles in peer reviewed journals, several reviews and book chapters, as well as public health reports and articles in popular science media. Lately she has also conducted research in the area of global and humanitarian nursing.
