Edwin TanDr Edwin Tan is a NHMRC-ARC Dementia Research Development Fellow, Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Monash University and affiliated with the Aging Research Center, Karolinska Institutet. He is also a registered pharmacist with clinical experience in both Australia and the UK.

Dr Tan graduated with a Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) in 2007. He was awarded his PhD at Monash University in 2014. His doctoral thesis, ‘A team approach to optimising medication outcomes in primary care’, was awarded the 2014 Mollie Holman Doctoral Medal.

In 2015, Dr Tan received an Australian Government Endeavour Research Fellowship and the Honourable Geoffrey Connard AM Travel Award to undertake postdoctoral training at the Department of Population Medicine, Harvard Medical School and the Aging Research Centre, Karolinska Institutet.

Dr Tan’s research interests are in pharmacoepidemiology, public health, quality use of medicines and cognitive health and ageing. His current fellowship investigates the management of comorbidities in people with dementia, with a focus on cardiovascular disease.

Dr Tan is the associate supervisor for one PhD, one Masters and six undergraduate pharmacy and medical students. He is an experienced teaching associate and lecturer, and has designed and delivered coursework as part of the undergraduate pharmacy practice curriculum at Monash University. He is on the editorial board for Research in Social and Administrative Pharmacy.

Dr Tan is also a cartoonist and has had his work published in various journals and textbooks. In 2013, he was shortlisted for the Lord Mayor’s Creative Writing Awards.
